Beginning in November 2006, a promotion began with Disney and the makers of Blu Ray discs. This promotion was stated that any Pixar CARS movie bought on Blue Ray DVD format would contain an on-line code for DisneyRewards.com, that code enabled the purchaser to obtain a Limited Edition Blu Ray Lightning McQueen car. The cost for this car was 1. The purchase of the blu ray movie (24.99-29.99) and $3.50 for shipping/handling 2. the time waiting to receive the car in the mail.
As people starting receiving their ordered cars, a few went into collections and way more ended up on EBay for sale. Now the turn around time for these cars to make their way to the code bearer’s hands was quite awhile, 7-8 months I believe. Now the promotion ran from November 2006- January 31st 2008, and this vehicle was then stated to be Limited Edition of 15,000 units. So for a 14 month promotion that is a very LOW production number. And Mattel (the manufacturer if Pixar CARS diecast) nor Disney OFFICIALLY stated the production number of this promotion. It was all hyped by toy hype beast’s all over the Internet.
Now the good stuff begins, starting in December 2007 people started receiving their initial orders/code entries. A few code bearers received MORE than they had entered codes for, great mistake made by the distribution center, which will cause a HUGE problem in the next coming months. I didn’t participate in the event until January 6th, 2008. I bought 2 Blu Ray CARS movies and entered the codes, basically one for my daughter to have and one to keep put away with all my other LE cars. Well I also received extras, I received 16 over the next month for my 2 code entries. And I wasn’t alone with more than 10 people notifying me or publicly posting on www.carsthetoys.com what they were getting.
now the promotion is over and a handful of people didn’t get a limited car, due to supplies not lasting. On the above mentioned website these select cry babies want to start legal action against Disney for failing to get them a toy car they entered an online code for that stated quantities limited/while supplies last. They feel because they HAD a code they were entitled to a car, and because others received extras because of Disney’s distribution center screw-up. So a few people on the www.carthetoys.com board were furiously attacking the few that publicly mentioned getting extras and those people were called tools, assholes, jackasses and many other words.
here is a quoted posts from one of these “adults” about this toy car situation.
Well with my reply email to the previous thread you already know what I think will be acceptable and T-shirts that wear out and can’t be played with or posters that my son would ruin in a day are not acceptable to me. I want a car and one that not everyone would of had. My son was looking forward to finally beating his friend at school in the cars collecting. They always seem to be neck in neck with their collections. Us big kids, (me and my son’s friend’s Dad are also friends) compare notes as well and I was the only one of us to have found the BRD so my son was the only one that was going to have the BRcar unless he resorted to eBay. We call that cheating so Ceynan would have finally had bragging rights and if you don’t think that matters to a 1st grader then you don’t have kids and can’t remember being one. So the people that said they won’t remember this for very long don’t know how much kids memories can last when it’s something you wish they would forget. I guess in the grand scheme of things they might forget over time but the thing is they shouldn’t have to and that is not a given. The thing Disney is forgetting too is that they will not completely forget. When the kids that wanted something grow up they will remember that Disney is a company of false promises and it may even be one of those things that sticks in the back of your mind. When Ceynan grows up he may say ‘Oh I really don’t care about Disney all that much’ and not even know why. If there are people here who don’t think this can happen take this into account…. and my son is now 7… Disney so if you think that buy bumming a kid out or more accurately lieing to a kid and not giving them something that is promised won’t do anything think again. Hopefully this is different in this situation and what happened to everyone this time will make Disney think twice. I doubt it but it would be nice for a change to see a company own up to it’s error and correct it in a correct fashion.
As for me only an exclusive limited edition “chase” vehicle will be acceptable. Other wise I want my money back for the stupid BR-DVD that I bought.
I think it is seriously sad that adults still use their children as scapegoats for their OBSESSION with toys and even sadder that if a toy car would cause this much grief and hardship on a child of 7 yrs or younger and adversely affect their future as adults, the parents are FUCKED UP! As is their lack of positive parenting!
I got a lot of extras and the fact these people want me to pass them out as candy to the “needy” children that didn’t get one due to the lack of their parents laziness to buy a disk or wait until the very end of the promotion. It isn’t my fault and I don’t see where it is mandatory for me to hand out extras like candy because certain individuals feel they are GOD and demand it to happen!! I have sent out several in trades…given them to my daughter, godson, and friends son in California. Sad to see how 30-40+ year old ADULTS act and place blame over a toy car, very sad for our future!
